Michael Jackson: The Man, The Myth, The Legend…

I must start off this post by saying I am writing this not for cheesy “page rank” or to strike some “controversy” (like other opportunistic blogs) but to celebrate and honor the The Greatest Entertainer of All Time Michael Jackson. Michael Jackson has had a true impact on culture of the last quarter century  – If Michael Jackson never existed, your favorite artist wouldn’t have been relevant. Theirs a lot on my mind about the treatment of the legend (the media aka cable news) and my overall appreciation of his work and artistry– that was at a un-earthly level. MJ_chillin

First and foremost, I must address the Michael Jackson haters by saying we should honor this mans greatness and ignore the “controversies” of his life. I think anyone who makes light of Michael Jackson calling him a child molester or any other disrespectful term at this point, should be back slapped and have their mouths washed with soap. The notion that every album he came out with after Thriller was failures because they didn’t match the same success is absolutely fatuous. So let me get this right, Remember The Time, Smooth Criminal, In The Closet, Bad, Scream, Man in The Mirror, Black or White, Jam among many others were all failures I guess.

What people fail to realize is yes he has the second greatest selling album of all time and yes he’s among a handful of artist who’s sold over 750 million albums worldwide. The thing that’s most impressive to me which seemingly everyone overlooks on talk radio or cable news is the fact that he has all of these hit singles and records in album sells as a living legend– key word being Living Legend. What I meant by being a living legend is most of these artist people praise or have fond things to talk about like The Beatles or Elvis Presley only became legendary when they passed away. Elvis wasn’t nearly as big as he was alive like he’s now after death. The Beatles arguably sold more albums after the death of John Lennon.

So my point is Michael Jackson was neck and neck with these artist but the incredible thing about it is he’s neck and neck with artist that were in the grave! Michael-Jackson-ThrillerNow that he has passed he has definitely assured himself the top slot because unfortunately dead icons become more relevant and more legendary when they have left us. A question to ponder is what level of relevancy can Michael Jackson reach that he hasn’t already? Just like I said, dead icons become legendary but legends become gods.
